What is One Place of the Shoals — and Why It Matters

One Place of the Shoals, Inc. is a collaborative Family Justice Center dedicated to serving victims of:

Domestic violence
Adult rape and sexual assault
Child sexual and physical abuse
Elder abuse

Instead of forcing survivors to travel from office to office, One Place brings together advocates, law enforcement, legal partners, medical professionals, and counselors all under one roof. Here, victims can:

Speak with an advocate and create a safety plan
Receive forensic medical care and evidence collection
Meet with law enforcement and legal representatives
Access shelter, counseling, and transportation resources
Begin the journey from crisis to hope with dignity and support

The Problem

For too long, victims in crisis have been left to navigate a confusing, exhausting system. They are shuffled from the emergency room to the police department, from the courthouse to social services, often with children in tow. At every stop, they are forced to retell their painful stories—sometimes even in public spaces where their abuser may appear.

This broken system leaves many overwhelmed and discouraged. Too often, victims give up and remain trapped in unsafe, abusive, and life-threatening situations.

The Solution

One Place of the Shoals exists to change that story.

One location for comprehensive, coordinated services
Trusted professionals who walk with them from the first step to the finish line
Safety and dignity in a caring environment
